The first transmission
There was no plan for a label.
There was a browser tab with a step sequencer, a synthesiser built from raw mathematics, and a question: can you generate dub reggae from pure waveforms? No samples. No loops. No AI music generators. Just sine waves, sawtooth oscillators, and the laws of physics.
The answer was yes. And the sound that came out of those oscillators had something. Not polish — it had none of that. But it had weight. Sub-bass you could feel in your teeth. Spring reverb that rattled like an old unit bolted to a mixing desk in Kingston. Tape delay that smeared and degraded the way tape does when the oxide is wearing thin.
That experiment became a 10-track generator with presets named after moods rather than technical specs. Eb Aeolian at 68 BPM. Ab minor at 50 BPM. The kind of names you give things when you're not building a product — you're exploring a space.
The space kept expanding. One-drop grooves grew psybient layers. Evolving pads with 4-second attacks breathing beneath the riddim. Sitar drones holding root notes while the melodica wandered through Dorian modes above. When the dub engineer dropped the drums, the psychedelic layer was revealed underneath — it had been there the whole time, invisible, humming beneath the bass.
That was the moment. Not a technical achievement. A feeling. The invisible roots made audible.
Neuradub Records exists because that feeling needed a name.
The name came from two words pushed together until they stopped being two words: neural and dub. Consciousness meets sound system. The signal path from the inner ear to wherever music actually lives inside you. We don't know where that is. Neither does neuroscience. But dub knows how to get there — through the sub-bass, through the delay, through the space between the notes.
This is a label for experimental dub reggae, psy chill, and roots consciousness music. Based in Cape Town. All frequencies open.
The first three transmissions are in production. More on those soon.
For now: the bass is the foundation. The psychedelic is the light through the cracks in the concrete.
